I don’t know what we have done to upset the big one, but for some reason our house has been selected as the local house of the plague for the past month.
It must be months since all of us have been perfectly fit, seeing at least one of us has been ill at one point in time.
At the end of last week after finishing another series of Night shifts at the local germ/virus breeding ground (or otherwise known as the local hospital), the wife caught what we thought was a flu virus. By Friday she was coughing like a 50 year old smoker on a bad day. (She gave a work colleague a lift home, who happened to have flu !!). Saturday Cian my eldest was starting to complain of a sore throat.
Sunday was my nieces 2nd birthday (Katie), and the day before was my dads birthday and mum and dads wedding anniversary. Anne-Marie wasn’t feeling that great, so just the kids and I traveled up for the day. By the time we got home around 7pm, the boys were both feeling sick. By Monday morning, I had it too. That left only Eilis who went to school feeling fine, but came home feeling rough.
So after several trips to the doctors, Anne-Marie has flu complicated by a chest infection, the 3 kids have Pharyngitis on top of flu. Me, I have flu as well. Next year, I am definitely going to make sure I get inoculated against flu. I always say I will, but never remember. If it were not for my hip and back, I could probably handle the flu, but it just makes it feel like all my joints have been filled with sand. I ache like the proverbial.
So early Monday morning, I did my weekly shopping online at Tesco’s, and I am going to lock the front door for the next week until we all recover.
I have to have my pre-op test on the 4th April, and I have until then to get the bug out of my system, or they will cancel my operation once again. If that happens, I am going to be so far up the Swanny, I’ll be devastated.
Update: 23 MAR 2005 02:40
Ha.. And there was me thinking that this flu bug was exclusive to the UK (especially this house).
I have some things I need to finish off working with Chris York (in the US), but because of this damn flu bug, I can’t get near the computer at the same time as Chris. When I got up to get a drink tonight (temp was up at 104 again!!), I went to check my email and noticed Chris was online. But not for long, he was heading to bed as he is coming down with the flu too. Does this mean the internet is no longer restricted to the spreading of information, and that there is a new flu strain that can transcend the ether ??
