I finally managed to sit down tonight and complete my 2004/2005 tax submission. I’d been looking high and low for my P60 for the year and I had to sort my computer desk out in an effort to find it. As it happens, it was filed away in my paperwork drawer under "Pay Statements". Oh well, at least my work desk is tidy now.

The cut off date for submitting your taxes for the taxman to work it out is the 30th September. Mine were relatively simple this year so I thought I’d do it myself, and then see how far out I was. As it happens, we both came to the same figure so that bodes well for next year.

I used the online Tax system at the Inland Revenue and the whole process took less than 30minutes to complete (once you have all the paperwork in front of you). Most of that time was spent double checking my figures and I reckon overall I could have done it in less than 15minutes. I’ll definetly be using it again next year. Mind you, my 2005/2006 tax will be complicated since I have worked for myself from April 21st, so I’ll have two employers.
