Its Pompey versus Southampton at St. Mary’s today, and with the scummers run of bad form lately, I am hoping that they don’t get it out of their system with a thrashing of Pompey.
If Pompey win, it will be the final nail in the coffin for Steve Wigley. I blame their bad form on their chairman. He doesn’t instill confidence in any of their managers. Gordon Strachen left at the right time and for his own reasons. I’d like to bet that he couldn’t stand working for the chairman, although he is probably too professional to admit it.
I’d still put Pompey up for a win though, and seeing as we are 8 places higher and 7 points the better, the form book would suggest so too. But this match is bigger than the premiership, its got more passion than an FA cup match, this match is as close to war as you can get.
But Pompey are still waiting for their first away win, and are on the backend of a 3 – 0 drubbing by Aston Villa, despite beating Man Utd the week before that?
The ‘Yak’ isn’t helping matters with reports in the press that he would leave for a bigger club if one came in with an offer. Knowing the press, it is probably a mis-quote, but if true, it is something he should have kept to himself. He should be committed 110% to Pompey when he pulls on the blue shirt.
If he is fit, and there are not many Pompey players that are, I think Diomansy Kamara will probably be a key player.
Shaka will also reach a milestone in his career today if he plays:
i. 350th club League appearance
ii. 200th English premier appearance.
The other deciding factor today will be a certain Graham Poll, who will really need to keep a lid on the game from early on…
Its kick off in 2 mins, so I’m off…
